GLOSSARY
What is Mitochondria & ATP?
The cellular powerhouses that produce energy for brain function.
Definition
Mitochondria are organelles within cells responsible for producing adenosine triphosphate (ATP), the primary energy currency of cells. The brain is particularly energy-demanding, using about 20% of the body's total energy. Photobiomodulation works by stimulating cytochrome c oxidase within mitochondria, enhancing ATP production.
Why It Matters
Developing brains require enormous amounts of energy. Supporting mitochondrial function may help provide the energy needed for synapse formation, neural network maturation, and cognitive development.
