GLOSSARY
What is Photobiomodulation (PBM)?
The use of light to stimulate cellular function and support healing.
Definition
Photobiomodulation (PBM), also known as low-level laser therapy (LLLT), is a non-invasive treatment that uses specific wavelengths of light to stimulate cellular activity. When light photons are absorbed by mitochondria within cells, they trigger a cascade of beneficial responses including increased ATP production, reduced inflammation, and enhanced tissue repair.
Why It Matters
For child development, PBM supports the brain's natural healing and growth processes. By enhancing mitochondrial function, it may help with neuroplasticity, cognitive development, and regulation.
